He contested Bagan Serai Parliamentary seat as an Umno candidate and won with a slim majority of 172 votes more than his PAS rival Rohaya Bakar.
Before the swearing-in ceremony, he quits UMNO on 24 June 2018 citing dissatisfaction with division members and saying he has always been an outcast in Umno.
"Without power and solid allocations, we can't help the people," he said.
He later joins Bersatu on 28 November 2018.
